33°N viewpoint
A 360° viewpoint on the 33rd parallel north, looking out to the Goto Islands and Hirado. Especially beautiful at sunset, with a photo-frame monument.

Saikai and beyond (a car journey)
Saikai Bridge Park
A park at the foot of the two bridges over the Inoura Strait, with an adventure playground, a seaside area and lookouts. Known for its tidal whirlpools — counted among Japan’s three great tidal currents — and its spring cherry blossom.

Isanoura Park
A lakeside park surrounded by woodland: some 1,500 cherry trees in spring, cool lake breezes in summer, autumn colour and winter stars. For camping and cottages, follow the operator’s own information.

Nanatsugama Cave
Explore Nanatsugama’s caves, known for their unusual geology and cool interiors. 35 caves have been found around the visitable Shimizu Cave, and inside it stays around 15°C all year. Not accessible by wheelchair.

Look for the large half-round dome. Saikai souvenirs and visitor information, with stalls for local vegetables and fish and shops making sweets from local produce nearby.

Nearby islands (by boat)
Matsushima
An island that prospered from whaling and coal mining from the Edo period, once home to 13,000 people. There is no bridge; it is reached by boat. The city publishes a walking map, the “Matsushima Saruku Map”.

- About 10–17 minutes by city boat or ferry (from the city boat pier in Seto or the Seto Port ferry terminal; departure points differ by boat). Saikai Engan Shosen’s Seto–Matsushima route stopped running on 1 October 2026 (operator’s notice)
