“Dream of Grace and Splendor” captures an eternal moment—a convergence of time, life, beauty, and emotion.

The cherry blossoms, suspended in full bloom, do not fall. Unlike their fleeting counterparts in nature, these blossoms embody a beauty that does not fade—a form of life that transcends time and endures beyond the passage of seasons.

At the heart of the composition lies a perfect circle—an emblem of harmony and infinity in Japanese culture.

Within this form, the cherry blossoms quietly unfold, poised at the intersection of motion and stillness, the ephemeral and the eternal, emotion and philosophy.

Together, the circle and the blossoms invite the viewer into a silent space beyond time, where beauty becomes not only an object of admiration, but a mirror for quiet inner reflection.

Sou Akou was born in Jilin Province, China, in 1960 and now lives in Fukuoka, Japan. A member of the China Artists Association, he studied under the renowned Nihonga painter Matazo Kayama in 1987. In 1988 he moved to Japan as a visiting scholar at Fukuoka University of Education. He founded the Sou Akou Chinese Ink Painting Association in 1990, renamed the Sou Akou Ink Painting Academy in 2003, and has taught for over 30 years, mentoring around 3,000 students. In 2005 he received the UN-NGO World Academy Grand Prize.

In 2022 the Sou Akou International Art Exchange Center was established in Saikai City, Nagasaki. In 2023 he completed Eternal Fuji, a 9.2-metre-wide ink painting accompanied by a 30-minute original composition by Tetsuya Komuro.

His work fuses traditional Chinese and Japanese techniques with a modern expressionist style, forging a distinctive voice rooted in classical aesthetics.
